Florida Sets September Sales-Tax Holiday on Tools by Karen A. Lake, CPA

For the third consecutive year, Florida offers consumers and skilled tradespersons a one-week sales-tax holiday on tools and related equipment costing as much as $300 per item. During the week of September 1 through 7, 2024, individuals may purchase the following items in the state without having to pay state or local sales tax:

  • Work gloves priced at $25 or less per pair
  • High-visibility safety vests costing $30 or less
  • Hand tools, safety glasses, protective coveralls, duffle bags, fuel cans and LED flashlights costing $50 or less
  • Toolboxes and hearing protection priced at $75 or less
  • Toolbelts, hard hats, shop lights and electric voltage and testing equipment priced at $100 or less
  • Industry textbooks and code books costing $125 or less per item
  • Drain opening tools, handheld pipe cutters and plumbing inspection equipment costing $150 or less
  • Workboots costing $175 or less per pair
  • Ladders costing $250 or less
  • Power tools priced at $300 or less
